North Shore Dog Parks

The 12 Best Dog Parks on Boston's North Shore

Fenced runs, conservation trails, and beach access from Lynnfield up through Beverly, Salem, and Marblehead.

The North Shore has more space than the city, and that changes how dogs get their exercise. Instead of small urban runs, you have conservation trails, beach access, and a mix of town-managed dog parks across Lynnfield, Marblehead, Salem, Peabody, Beverly, Wakefield, and Lynn. This guide covers the spots our Lynnfield boarding clients use most.

Fenced off-leash parks

1. Marblehead Dog Park

Marblehead's main fenced park, near Devereux Beach. Separate small-dog area, gravel surface that drains well, and a long-running regulars community. The morning crowd is friendly and most owners know each other.

2. Swampscott Dog Park (Phillips Park)

A reliable mid-size fenced park with size separation. Easy parking, good shade in summer, and convenient for anyone in Swampscott, north Lynn, or Marblehead.

3. Peabody Dog Park

Adjacent to the Brooksby Farm trail system. Fenced area for off-leash play, plus the option to extend with a leashed walk through the orchards — a particularly nice fall combination.

4. Independence Park Dog Park — Beverly

Beverly's main fenced park, downtown-adjacent. Separate small-dog area, paved paths around it, and convenient for residents of Beverly and Wenham.

5. Wakefield Dog Park (Nasella Playground)

Wakefield's town dog park is well-lit for evening visits and has a tight community of regulars. A good option for anyone in Wakefield, Reading, Stoneham, or Melrose.

Conservation trails (leashed)

6. Lynn Woods Reservation

At 2,200 acres, this is the biggest hiking option on the North Shore. Miles of leashed trails through forest and around reservoirs. Bring water in summer — the trails are mostly shaded but there's no water access for dogs along most loops. Best for dogs with solid leash skills.

7. Reedy Meadow — Lynnfield

A large conservation marsh in our hometown of Lynnfield. The boardwalk loop is leashed only and best for calm, leash-trained dogs (lots of birds, lots of distractions). Beautiful in early morning and at sunset.

8. Forest River Park — Salem

Wooded with waterfront access. Leashed only, but the trails are well-maintained and quieter than the Willows. Easy parking, never crowded.

9. Stevens-Coolidge Place — North Andover

Trustees of Reservations property with manicured gardens and meadows. Leashed only. Stunning in spring and fall — a slower-paced outing rather than a big workout.

Beach access

10. Devereux Beach — Marblehead (Off-Season Hours)

Off-leash dog access during the off-season window (typically October through April; check current Marblehead rules before going). Open coastline and waves — paradise for retrievers and water dogs. Bring a towel.

11. Salem Willows

Leashed harbor-side walks with grassy lawns. Not an off-leash park, but a beautiful regular outing. Rinse the salt off after if your dog goes near the water.

Local town parks

12. Lynnfield Recreation Path

Our hometown's network of multi-use paths and small green spaces. Leashed only, no fenced run, but a reliable daily walk option for Lynnfield residents.

What to bring on a North Shore park visit

  • Water and a collapsible bowl. Conservation trails rarely have water fountains.
  • Tick prevention. Tick pressure is high across the North Shore from April through November.
  • A long line for trails — better than off-leash if your recall isn't bulletproof.
  • Bags, doubled. Always more bags than you think you need.

When the weather doesn't cooperate

North Shore winters and spring mud seasons make outdoor exercise hit-or-miss for weeks at a time. That's where structured indoor enrichment matters. Our Lynnfield daycare and boarding home is built around real rainy-day routines: scent work, puzzle feeders, training games, supervised group play in our indoor space, and outdoor breaks the moment the weather breaks.

For a complete picture of dog-friendly outings beyond just parks, see our dog-friendly places on the North Shore guide — restaurants, breweries, shops, and seasonal events.

Always verify current rules. Town dog parks change hours, fence rules, and seasonal restrictions year to year. Check with the relevant town conservation commission or recreation department before a first visit.
